Buttons and patches and the cold wind blowing, the days pass quickly when I am sewing.

Welcome to Butternut Plaid.

I have been quilting for about 30 years, as well as drawing and painting for most of my life.  I learned about wool applique about 16 years ago and became hooked. I  taught myself how to dye wool, ribbon, and thread. I loved hand stitching, so the embroidered embellishment of the wool fueled my passion for the technique.  I started making my own designs and eventually became the co-owner of a small wool applique design company.

I no longer own the company, but I found that I do enjoy teaching others how to create something handmade. I'll share my passion and knowledge through this blog,* which I hope will bring you many happy hours of blissful stitching.

Happy Stitching!

*I offer these designs for your personal use only, not for commercial use. If you wish to make small quantities of the projects to sell you may contact me, Grace Lombardo at butternutplaid@gmail.com .

In the past I’ve found that someone was offering a for-profit class using one of my designs. Each design is accompanied by a written tutorial, so why charge someone for something that they can access for free? Please do not do that. I have no objections to anyone selling a materials kit for one of my designs as long as the purchaser is referred to my blog for instruction.
